How do you plan to use your Raspberry? I think i will mainly use for server because it is silent haven't fun and lower power concumption. So it is perfect to be always on and online. Nice to be used for Samba server and Web server for me.
I would like to use it for media Server and streaming SAT channels from my Vu+ Ultimo (for use it on a different room where my Ultimo is)
Openelec is a very good solution for it. @Shiro and @angelofsky1980 You will do for Rpi a very good complement for VU+
The problem to use it for media Server is the storage capacity. Do you plan to connect to an external usb hdd ? What model ? The hdd require an external power or a powered hub because PI cannot manage Devices using more than 100 mA.
I will use other devices for storage, I will get media files from network (ultimo´s hdd and Macbook´s one) and I will get a powered hub for manage wifi usb (realtek chipset, wich come with Vu+ Ultimo) and a multimedia keyboard that I used on my old HTPC.
Uhmm i have doubts about perfomance of this kind of network design with wifi. Hope your streaming will be good.
Me too with a 1 Tera external usb hdd auto-powered and a simply cheap not powered usb hub (chinese buyed today 5 euro ) I think i will test this config first with the more powerful MK802 that will arrive soon
I don't need powered hub because i will attach to the hub only: 1) mouse and keboard that don't need powered hub but can be manage by PI usb port 2) external 1 tera usb hdd that don't need powered hub because it is auto-powered. In this way i will have a real server with 1Tera of storage and cable connected to the network for best performances.
I tried xbmc on mine when I got it a few weeks ago, it was very slow though (to be expected as it was an early build), but i've not used it since.
