Is it possible to use Raspberry Pi for the *.ts conversion?

Can we use Raspberry Pi for the *.ts conversion automatically? VU+ records TV channels in *.ts format. Automotive infotainment do not play *.ts format. It's best to convert it to *.divx however I don't know if we can find a way to do this conversion. Otherwise any other format automotive infotainment can play is also OK if we can find a way to load this task to Raspberry Pi?

Well... I think you can give ffmpeg a try or VLC (internally using ffmpeg as well).
You may just need to fine the right command line arguments and put some boilerplate code around it to find new files to convert and process them on a regular base (cron job).
I guess I would prepare a Python script that is looking for new files, downloads them via FTP and then starts the conversion (or use SMB sharing to process them directly). Would be some work to do, but feasable.
